U.S. Beef and Pork Included in China's Tariff Relief
U.S. and China Push to Expand Trade on ‘Non-Sensitive Items’… Export Recovery Expected

U.S. beef and pork have been included in the list of "non-sensitive items" for which tariff burden relief is being discussed between the U.S. and China.
The U.S. and China recently decided to pursue a plan to select non-sensitive items worth approximately $30 billion each and apply more favorable tariff treatment to them in the future.
The items subject to review included agricultural products and medical devices, and U.S. beef and pork were also named as subjects for tariff reduction discussions.
The U.S. meat industry expects this measure to serve as an opportunity to increase access to U.S. beef and pork in the Chinese market.
In particular, the industry is paying close attention to China as a major export market for beef and pork by-products and offal, which are consumed relatively little in the United States.
However, this announcement does not mean the immediate confirmation of tariff reductions.
Issues regarding actual tariff rates, application timing, and non-tariff barriers such as quarantine and facility registration are expected to be finalized through follow-up negotiations.
If access to the Chinese market improves in the future, it is likely to impact not only the expansion of U.S. beef and pork exports but also global meat trade flows.
